Eat Yer Veggies...And Wear Them, Too?

This week, my brain has been concentrating on flower options! While I am going to have amazing volunteers with several of the DIY projects, I think flower selection should be the most painless. At first, I was trying to decide on paper, fabric, or local decorations. After discussing our options, I am confident that Josh and I will be able to find fresh produce locally grown in our city; I have decided that fruits, vegetables and other plants should be incorporated in our wedding! I would love to have a veggie bouquet, and I know Josh has several ideas involving peppers accenting his clothing. As two vegans who get excited over a fresh supply of beautiful broccoli, I cannot think of a better choice for us. I plan to continue this research and figure out which veggies will fit into our color scheme…a topic for next week! For now, here are some visuals I encountered from greenweddingshoes.com and www.gourmetfury.com : (am I the only one craving a kale salad right now?)

Greetings!

Ever have one of those moments where that perfect idea just clicks? That is exactly what happened to me no less than thirty minutes ago! While my wedding date is not until Spring 2014, I have already felt the beginning signs of procrastination...Let me tell you a little more about myself, and of course, the greatest man in my life, Josh!

Josh and I have been together since February 2011. It took less than a month for me to know he was the one and that I was completely and totally in love with him. A year later on our anniversary, Josh proposed by the river in our city of Richmond, Virginia. It was without a doubt, the happiest day of my life.

Josh is an amazing pet photographer who enjoys meeting new furry friends and cooking incredible dinners. I work for an eco-friendly cleaning company and love the great outdoors! Josh and I are also vegan and plan on having a eco-friendly and vegan wedding. With these two components combined, I have potentially set up the biggest DIY project of our lifetime!

My name is Kirsty, and I can barely fill up my bike tires without uttering a curse word. I need this blog to keep myself straight and  to motivate others. I want to communicate with anyone out there that has advice or has also been down the DIY wedding planning road. I honestly want to put my heart and soul into this blog and the wedding as a whole, as I have never truly finished a real project...as hard as it is to admit!

I want to make this wedding awesome and at the same time, contribute to the sustainability of this great earth. While we are on a very strict budget, we also see no point in buying new things that will only promote future waste and trash. Saving money and the environment sound like two fantastic ideas! I hope you all will follow us on our journey and watch as this project develops slowly but surely over the next year and a half. Here are our children, Cara and Oliver, who will be giving their support through it all as well!
